Lord Of The Flies Summary for chapters 8-9-10, december 15, 2012

Chapter 8:
Ralph and Piggy discussed what they knew about the beast and decided to call an assembly. They decided to not allow hunting any longer as they felt it wasn't safe. Jack got mad and said he wasn't going to stay with them anymore. He ran off down the beach. They dismissed his departure and said he'd come back at sunset. They continued the assembly and tried to think of a new place to build the fire. They decided that they'd build it by the bathing pool. After the assembly they all gathered wood and piled it on the beach.

Chapter 9:
Simon walked up to the mountain and detached the dead pilot from the rocks causing it to not bob its head anymore. He saw the boys down by the beach and staggered down to tell them the news of the Beast. Piggy and Ralph swam as there was nothing else to do. They decided to go to Jack's feast to make sure everything was okay. When they arrived they received meat as they listened to Jack lure people to his tribe. Just as they were talking Simon came stumbling out of the shadows and burst into there crowd. They bit and jabbed him until he lie dead on the beach.

Chapter 10:
Piggy and Ralph sat in the assembly area talking about Simon's death. When Sam and Eric arrived with firewood they quickly changed the subject. Meanwhile at the neck of the island, Roger encountered one of the new guards thats have been assigned. They used a lever to push a boulder over the side of the small cliffside in-case of an intruder. They discussed news of Jack taking them hunting soon. When Roger arrived back at the shelter, Jack spoke of his plans to once again raid the beach of its fire. They next night Jack and two of his men attacked Ralph and Piggy and stole nothing except his glasses.

Lord Of The Flies assignment, 13,11,12 (draft)

After the boat had passed, Ralph called a meeting about the fire at the lamentable seating area on the beach. After a while of speaking and making sure everyone always did their jobs from now on, the crowd became swept with wearisomeness and speak of the "beast" started to rise again. Somebody got hold of the conch and it started to get tossed around between the youngins. Ralph grabbed it back and held it above his head with apparent reverence. After settling them all down he started to dismiss the "beast" once again but when somebody mentioned "ghosts" the convulsions of laughter started. he settled them down once again. Jack stole the attention of the crowd and rallied them to hunt down the beast and before Ralph knew it they were all back at the shelter leaving Simon, Piggy and himself alone. It was obvious to him now the young'ins would not notice the splendors of the island until all speak of the beast was gone.

Lord Of The Flies; why does jack want to hunt?

I think that Jack is so compelled to hunt because he feels that because he failed the first time that the boys encountered a pig. Meanwhile the others don't want to bother with the difficult task of hunting when they could just eat the fruit off of the pasture of bushes they found. Jack thinks that he lost face or failed by not being able to kill the pig on the first day. He may also want to earn the respect of the others by catching food for the rest of the boys, as he lost the vote to be chief.

Lord Of The Flies, chapter 1-3 summary

Lord Of The Flies is about a group of boys that survive a plane crash onto a deserted tropical island. Soon after the crash they called all of the boys to a meeting where they were to elect a leader. They ended up electing Ralph, the protagonist of the book. Piggy, one of the surviving boys who is often made fun of by the rest of the boys, comes up with the idea to go to the central mountain on the island and build a fire. A few days after they build the fire to attract boats and planes, they realize that they are running low on food and need shelter. Meanwhile, Jack is compelled to go hunting after failing to catch the first pig they saw on the island and will not give up the task. Ralph, jack, and simon try to rally the rest of the boys to help build but eventually decide to take a break as they are the only ones working.

    Letter to Rand Miller

    Dear Mr. Rand

My name is Greyson I am 12, and I am a student at TESLA school in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.

I wanted to write to you to let you know how much I love your games and books. I am a huge fan of   the Myst series, I have played all of them except for Ages Beyond Myst. The storyline, scenery, and puzzles are all amazing.

I was wondering how difficult it is to get such great musical instruments. Do you have to actually go to India?
(Conclusion) Thank you so much for a great instrument, I will definitely use your business to buy more instruments in the future.
    (Signature line)
    Sincerely,
    Randy

    reading reflection april 13, 2012

Today I read the reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates book. I was amazed at how many different types of amphibians and reptiles there were, and even how many subspecies alone. There was crocodilians, snakes, skinks, chameleons, iguanas, and lots more. The amphibians are also verity cool, I always just think about frogs and newts but now I think about Axolotls and Japanese Giant Salamanders. Now i really want to have some kind of pet salamander or amphiuma. I definitely want to keep reading this book.

    Katniss from beginning to end

Katniss is a 16 year old girl from an area of District 12 called the Seam. In the Seam in order to survive you have to either be very rich or you have to break laws. Katniss and her family aren't rich so she goes outside of the gates and hunts for food so she can sell it to the townspeople for money to sustain their family. Katniss doesn't let her sister Primrose do much except go outside and milk her goat. In a place like  district 12 there are a lot of dangers for an 11 year old.

Throughout the book katniss is widely against the Hunger Games but she never excepted that her own sister would be chosen to be in the Games. Instead of Prim going to the games Katniss volunteered to go instead which proves her sense of bravery. She accepted her fate instead of trying to escape the games because she knew that she would probably die. On her way to the games she stayed relaxed and started making her strategy instead of being sad and grieving over the fact that she had to go to the games and leave her family. She wanted to try as best as she could to win the games instead of just giving up. This is also a sign of her bravery.

At the start of the games Katniss and Peeta grab weapons and narrowly escape the cornucopia without being killed. Katniss witnesses the boy tribute being killed right in front of her. She must have a very strong stomach to be in the games or else she won't make it far. She made it to a tree before nightfall and managed to make a small camp in it. A day in a half later she almost died of thirst but made it to a small pond before she could. This proved that even in the face of death she managed to survive due to her strength.

Katniss managed to find the other tribute from her district. She and Peeta made a shelter next to a lake, It seemed like a good location until Peeta became sick which forced Katniss to have a strong stomach while taking care of him. When it seemed like all was lost for them, gifts started to come down from the sky. Haymitch their coach for the games finally got enough money from sponsors to start sending gifts to Katniss and Peeta. Before they knew it there was only 2 tributes left. They figured that they would kill each other. And the the worst happened. One of the tributes was killed and they were forced to fight the other. The other tribute was Cato, an extremely good warrior from district 2. They met him at the cornucopia.

The beginning of the book, Katniss was a quiet, conservative, person who enjoyed being alone besides when she was with Gale. She would rather be in a field alone then with her family at her house. By the end of the book Katniss is a seasoned warrior. She is still conservative and quiet but she is more careful about her actions and she is happy to be alive.

    Hunger Games chapter #1

What new things are you noticing about Katniss the second time you are rereading the book?
she seems more fierce this time.

Is there anything new that you noticed the second time that you read this chapter?
this time my mind made a more clear picture of Katniss and Prim.
